In 2010 actual recovery were 708 million aluminum containers (including beer cans with a 5¢ deposit), 215 million plastic bottles and 5 million glass bottles for a total of approximately 22,290 metric tons.

22,290 metric tons is equivalent to 54 Boeing 747’s, or 5,300 elephants that were not directed to landfill sites.

Annually, the soft-drink bottlers, through BGE, invest approximately 2 million dollars programs to improve the recovery infrastructure as well as awareness programs.
