Consignaction return site opens in Rosemont

 

Montreal, April 19, 2024 - In preparation for the second phase of the deposit-refund system modernization, the Association québécoise de récupération des contenants de boissons (AQRCB)/Consignaction announces that the return location at 1301 Beaubien Street East, in the Montreal borough of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie, opened its doors today. Under the Consignaction banner, this return center features new-generation automated recycling machines and an express return service. Everything is in place to recover larger quantities of returnable beverage containers quickly and efficiently.

 

“The QBCRA/Consignaction is now offering an upgraded user experience for returns of redeemable beverage containers,” said Maryse Taupier, Senior Operations Director, QBCRA/Consignaction. “This return-site model delivers customer-experience innovation and is inspired by best practices.”

 

Consignaction return site

Dedicated exclusively to the recovery of returnable beverage containers, this Consignaction return point offers two services: 1) single-use return with automated recovery machines, or 2) express return, where a bag of unsorted containers can be dropped off. Another new feature is the possibility for citizens to receive their refund via a mobile application. For the single-use return, citizens can be reimbursed in cash or by secure electronic means, while for the express return, reimbursement is by electronic means only, as the containers are sorted and counted within a few days. Staff are on hand to provide customer service. This return location will be open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursdays and Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Expansion of deposit-refund to include more containers

Once Phase 2 of deposit-refund modernization is launched on March 1, 2025, new types of containers will be added, including bottles of wine and spirits as well as water bottles, as will an additional material: multi-layer carton. In all, 5 billion beverage containers will become redeemable. The new network of return sites will have the capacity to process the expected large volumes, and will consist of some 400 Consignaction or Consignaction+ sites by 2026. 

 

Consignaction and the Quebec Beverage Container Recycling Association (QBCRA)

Since 2001, programs branded with the Consignaction name have promoted beverage-container recovery to citizens and companies. Consignaction is the official emblem for promoting the activities of the QBCRA to the public and stakeholders. The QBCRA is the designated management body (DMB) for the development, implementation, financing and management of the modernized deposit-refund system, in line with the principle of extended producer responsibility (EPR).
